Spotify Wrapped 2023: Top Artists, Songs, and Albums

It is the most wonderful time of the year, and I am not just talking about the holidays. Every year, Spotify releases Spotify Wrapped, an annual end-of-year celebration in which users get to share their listening history from the year. This includes a plethora of data such as a users’s top artists, songs, genres, and more.

The 2023 Spotify Wrapped just dropped on November 29, so here is a breakdown of how more than 574 million people across the world listened to music this year.

The Top Global Artists of 2023

2023 was defined as the rebirth of female pop, so it is no surprise that Taylor Swift was Spotify’s top artist of the year. This year marked new heights for Swift’s career, attracting fans both old and new. Between her sold-out Eras Tour and rereleases of “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” and “1989 (Taylor’s Version),” Swift amassed an impressive 26.1 billion global streams since January 1.

Coming in at number two was Bad Bunny who previously held the number one spot. The rest of the Top 10 Global Artists included The Weeknd, Drake, Peso Pluma, Feid, Travis Scott, SZA, KAROL G, and Lana Del Rey.

The Top Global Songs of 2023

While Swift may hold the title of Top Global Artist, Miley Cyrus’s “Flowers” takes the prize for Top Song of the year. Since its release in January, “Flowers” had record-breaking success with more than 1.6 billion streams globally.

Surprisingly, none of Taylor Swift’s songs fall in the Top 5 most streamed songs of the year, with “Cruel Summer” taking the sixth spot and “Anti-Hero” taking the tenth. The remaining songs on the list include Metro Boomin, The Weeknd, and 21 Savage’s “Creepin,” Rema and Selena Gomez’s “Calm Down,” and Bizarrap and Shakira’s “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53.”

The Top Global Albums of 2023

Interestingly enough, several of this year’s Top 10 Albums were released before 2023. The most-streamed album for the second year in a row was Bad Bunny’s "Un Verano Sin Ti." Despite being over a year old, "Un Verano Sin Ti" reached 4.5 billion global streams.

Unsurprisingly, Midnight by Taylor Swift holds the second spot while "SOS" by SZA holds the third. The remainder of the Top 10 Global Albums included "Starboy" by The Weeknd, "MAÑANA SERÁ BONITO" by KAROL G, "One Thing At A Time" by Morgan Wallen, "Lover" by Taylor Swift, "Heroes & Villains" by Metro Boomin, "GÉNESIS" by Peso Pluma, and "Harry’s House" by Harry Styles.

Global Trends of 2023

Overall, pop culture trends fueled Spotify listening in 2023. Throughout the year, Gen Z users continued to embrace a variety of genres and moods while the consumption of Hispanic, Mandopop, Afrobeats, Indian Classical music grew drastically in the charts.

With so many memorable artists, songs, and albums, 2023 definitely left our toes tapping and heads banging. While Spotify Wrapped 2023 is officially in the books for now, Spotify Wrapped 2024 is not too far away. So keep listening to your favorite artists, songs, and albums to “Calm Down” and “Carry On.”
