Jack Freiser is the Director of Events for Movin’ On 2024 for the second year in a row. Freiser is a senior, expected to graduate this spring, majoring in telecommunications and minoring in english. He also spends his time at the arts director for Penn State’s CommRadio.
The Tenafly, New Jersey native joined Movin’ On as a freshman working as an event coordinator. He kept this position for both his freshman and sophomore years.
According to Freiser, his first year with the organization was the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, so he wanted a chance to really experience the full potential of the event coordinator position in his second year. During his junior year, Freiser joined the Executive Board as the Director of Events and has held this position for two years.
Freiser said that part of the reason he decided to attend Penn State was after hearing about Movin’ On and what the organization does, once he finished his first meeting he was “all in."
“I’ve always just been a music nerd,” Freiser said. “I’ve always been in love with music and I want to go into the music industry.”
As the Director of Events, Freiser has a large focus and role in all of the events leading up to the actual festival. This includes Battle, Spotlight Series, Lineup Release, and Acoustic Roadshow.
Within his team, his main responsibility is to delegate roles and responsibilities for his members while maintaining organization between various events. He described himself as the “middle man” for his team to the rest of the Executive Board.
“My goal is for them to have fun, if they're not having fun then no one is going to enjoy it,” Freiser said.
According to Freiser, his biggest event of the year is Battle. He works alongside the two battle coordinators on his team to create an amazing show, from there the winner gets to open for the headliner at Movin’ On.
During the Movin’ On music festival event Freiser does not have many specific tasks that come with his title. Nevertheless, he is ready to offer support and assistance wherever it’s needed throughout the day.
One of Fresier’s favorite memories during his time with Movin’ On was in his second year. He said that after the show, when the crew was taking down the set into the early morning hours, he and a few friends were driving around on golf carts racing to see who could pick up the fencing the fastest.
“It was just so fun and funny,” Fresier said. “When we’re just so delusional, it’s just a different experience that I’ve never had before.”
Freiser hopes to start a career in the music industry as an A&R consultant or manager, and through Movin’ On he has learned many skills that will help him in the industry. Movin’ On has taught him how to rely on a team, communicate, work with artists, how to be a leader and how to delegate roles in an effective way.
Freiser said he hopes that the future event directors do even more events than him and just make the position their own. He wants them to feel free to expand the things they love and just have fun with the position overall.
“My advice is to just go ahead and try,” Freiser said. “Even if you don’t think you’re qualified, that’s not a reason to not go for it.”
